All our canvases are stretched in the UK.
Original Artists stretched canvases are 38mm deep and made from high quality Fir, a timber commonly accredited for it's rot and warp resistant characteristics.
The sheer strength of our stretched canvases are obtained from a unique profile design on the stretcher bar that helps prevent "bowing" when under tension.
The stretcher bar profiles are also slightly rounded to allow the canvas weave to "roll over" the profile when tightenening, rather than snap over a sharp edge which is a major cause of canvas cracking.
Original Artists Canvases have traditional expandable joints that allow the canvas to be re-tensioned over time, as most paintings have a natural tendency to stretch and sag.
The 'Gallery Wrap' is a method of stretching our artist's canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and is secured to the back of the wooden stretcher frame.
Unlike cheap stretched canvas imports that use a type of thin rubber cord spline that fastnes the canvas, we use a double row of staples that allow for adequate re-tensioning and help the long term conservation of the canvas surface and artwork.
The sides of the canvas can be prepared and primed in the same manner as the face. This method of stretching and preparing a canvas allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting.
